Veteran’s Day and Pluralism

--

On this Veteran’s Day we remember the hard work and sacrifice of those who have taken up arms in the service of this country. Soldiers and sailors, pilots and marines, these men and women fought to preserve not only the democratic system of government we cherish but also the vision of pluralism and respect for difference that has always made this country great. At a time of immense division and disunity in our country, we should be humbled by the bravery and selflessness of those who have served it with honor. No matter where we fall across the political spectrum, we all need to recommit ourselves to the highest aspirations for our country and for the immense diversity of people who live here. May connection overcome division. May love overcome hatred. May hope overcome despair. And may the vision of a country united not in spite of its diversity but because of it continue to inspire us to move forward.
