WAYS GJC MEMBERS CAN GET INVOLVED TO PROTECT ELECTIONS
Presented by the Tikkun Olam Coordinating Team

Please RSVP to receive the Zoom link by contacting Dick Goldberg (dickjgoldberg@gmail.com).

At this meeting, we will review possible actions – including the following – and make plans for which of these we might do as a community. Please feel free to bring more ideas!

1. Volunteer with ACLU PA, which:

  • Works to protect everyone’s right to vote and participate in a fair election process.
  • Is committed to ensuring all citizens can cast their votes and have them counted.
  • Coordinates the Election Protection Coalition, to ensure that every eligible voter casts a counted ballot.

ACLU PA staff have suggested some ways GJC members can work with them (as a group or individuals, including from home) to:

  • Provide voter education.
  • Triage calls on election day.
  • Be poll workers and watchers.

2. Volunteer with the Committee of Seventy (C70):

This is a nonpartisan group advancing ethical and effective government in Philadelphia and Pennsylvania through citizen engagement and public policy advocacy.

  • Provides Poll Worker Resources – partners with League of Women Voters of Pennsylvania and experienced poll workers to offer information and resources for individuals who want to staff polling places on Election Day.
  • C70 and the League also offer information sessions with a former county election director for those looking for a more detailed overview of working the polls.
  • Election Academy – Committee of Seventy and the Philadelphia City Commissioners Office offer an educational series on how elections are administered in Philadelphia.

3. Volunteer with Election Protection:

  • Legal professionals: Answer calls on the organization’s 866-OUR-VOTE Hotline.
  • Non-legal professionals: Become a non-partisan poll monitor.

4. Volunteer with Philadelphia Neighborhood Networks – Action Network:

  • Opportunities to register voters.
