The Adventures of Prince Achmed
Film Showing & Discussion with Mindy Shapiro
presented by HAZAK
Sunday, November 12 at 10:00 AM (in-person)
Before Aladdin and the King of Thieves, before The Return of Jafar, before Disney’s original Aladdin, and yes, even before Mickey Mouse, there was The Adventures of Prince Achmed. The oldest animated film in existence, produced in 1926, this film amalgamates several tales from the Arabian Nights, including Aladdin’s.
Please join HAZAK to screen this exquisitely produced stop-action movie – composed almost entirely from cardboard paper cuts. After the screening, Mindy Shapiro, our resident paper cut artist, will lead a discussion about the technical and artistic aspects of the movie and its importance to the history of film. Please RSVP to Helen Feinberg or Coleman Poses.
