Fighting Stigma: Creating a More Inclusive Jewish Community

Rebecca Salus, Northeast Program Director for Jewish Adoption and Family Care Options (JAFCO), will discuss the importance of our Jewish community embracing and supporting families raising children with special needs. She will also highlight the unique issues facing siblings of children with special needs. Rebecca will speak during Shabbat services in the Charry Sanctuary on February 9 (service begins at 10 AM), and will be available for questions throughout kiddush following the service. 

Rebecca Salus is the Program Director for JAFCO, an organization providing support services to at-risk children and families in the greater Philadelphia community. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work and has over eighteen years of experience working in the child welfare field. Rebecca also studies improvisational theatre and developed a program to build social skills for children with special needs using improv techniques.  

Jewish Disability Awareness & Inclusion Month (JDAIM) is a unified national initiative during the month of February to raise disability awareness and support efforts to foster inclusion in Jewish communities worldwide.
