Torah Study

This group meets weekly in GJC's Quitman Library to study and read closely Jewish texts.  In addition to the biblical text, midrashic texts are introduced when they extend the understanding of the texts encountered.  All are welcome.  Led by Rabbi Fredi Cooper. Weekly, Fridays 10AM

Kabbalat Shabbat

This spirited service in the Maslow Auditorium is led by volunteer members who lead us in singing the psalms of Kabbalat Shabbat--and this community loves to sing!  The Rabbi offers a short teaching before we move on to the Ma'ariv (evening) service, which we again sing and chant together. Beit Midrash for children

During the months of January & February, students from across GJC's many communities learn, sing, pray, eat, and spend time together on Shabbat mornings. The classes are taught by our outstanding religious school faculty, and are geared towards the dual goals of experiential Jewish learning and building kid-community.

Shabbat Childcare

GJC is pleased to provide drop-off childcare, sponsored by Women of GJC and supervised by an Early Childhood Program teacher, on Shabbat mornings for children age 2-5.  Children play and read stories in one of the Early Childhood Program's rooms. No reservations are necessary. The teacher may be able to accommodate children under age 2

Minyan Masorti Shabbat Service

This weekly member-led traditional egalitarian minyan puts an emphasis on a complete traditional prayer service, with repetition of the Amidah in Shacharit and a full Torah reading. The minyan meets in the Temin Canteen Room, and all roles in the service are coordinated and filled by members, who also organize social activities, study, and celebrations

Shabbat Sha’baby

Welcome to Shabbat Sha'baby! This monthly Shabbat experience, for babies from birth to early walkers and their grown-ups, invites you to celebrate the special time of Shabbat with singing, movement, relaxation and play, and share and connect with other new parents and families. Charry Service: Mazal tov to Evan Kean on becoming Bar Mitzvah!

Led by Rabbi Zeff, this weekly service puts an emphasis on learning, with a shorter Shacharit prayer service and a longer period for study, led by the Rabbi and by members. The service meets in the Charry Sanctuary during the year, place where most of our Bar and Bat Mitzvah services and celebrations take place,

Dorshei Derekh Shabbat Service

This weekly member-led Reconstructionist minyan puts an emphasis on singing, with a full P'sukei d'Zimra (preliminary service), and interactive discussion during the d'var Torah. The minyan meets in the Maslow Auditorium, and all roles in the service are coordinated and filled by members, who also organize social activities, study, and celebrations throughout the year.
