The reasons for joining Germantown Jewish Centre are as diverse as our congregants. We call ourselves a “community of communities” because we provide a multitude of opportunities that we hope will allow you to connect meaningfully with others while on your spiritual journey. There are multiple prayer communities (Conservative and Reconstructionist) for adults and children; Jewish education classes for people of all ages; family-friendly holiday celebrations and social events; and Tikkun Olam initiatives designed to “repair our world” here in Philadelphia and beyond.

Whichever pathway you choose to enter GJC, you become part of a warm and welcoming community with whom you will share the most significant events in your life from births, b’nai mitzvah, and weddings to funerals and memorial services. GJC is a pluralistic, egalitarian synagogue affiliated with the Conservative movement. We embrace difference and welcome all Jews regardless of background, race, ethnicity, gender, ability, socioeconomic status, political affiliation, age, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

What Does It Mean To Be A Member?

We invite you to create a space for yourself here at GJC. The community is here to hold one another in times of great joy as well as sorrow. We are a place for forging friendships and learning together, and we want you to join us! Your membership makes possible all our regular services and programming. We couldn’t be here without the support that members provide.

Members Receive:

  • Rabbinic support, which includes pastoral counseling and teaching as well as spiritual guidance during times of transition
  • Tickets to High Holiday services
  • Discounted enrollment fees for our Koleinu Beit Midrash classes
  • Lower fees for our Early Childhood Program
  • Ability to enroll in our Religious School
  • Countless opportunities to connect with a passionate, vibrant, and involved community

Financial Membership Commitments

At Germantown Jewish Centre, your financial membership commitment begins as a conversation. One of our core values is that finances should never be a barrier to membership: we offer several different financial membership commitments that work for many of our members, but we also know that these commitments are not one size fits all and life changes over time. We will work with you to find a membership commitment that is both meaningful and sustainable for you. Please contact Kate Lawn, Program & Membership Director, at 215-844-1507, ex. 19 or community@germantownjewishcentre.org to start the conversation!

I’m ready! Where do I start?

It’s that easy! Kate will contact you and set up a time to talk in person or over Zoom to discuss financial membership commitment options and welcome you as an official member of the community!

I’m not quite ready, but I’m interested! What should I do?

  • Start by contacting Kate Lawn, Program & Membership Director, at 215-844-1507, ex. 19 or community@germantownjewishcentre.org. She will set up a time to meet with you in person or over Zoom.
    • Kate will make sure you get on the appropriate email lists as well as invite you to special events made to highlight our community.
  • Join us for a service, attend a program, or register for a class. Prospective members are always welcome!
    • Contact Kate Lawn if you plan on attending; she will make sure there is someone to welcome you and help you navigate our building.

We hope to see you soon!
