Yom ha-Shoah:
Megillat ha-Shoah – The Shoah Scroll
in-person & on Zoom (please check your email for access information)
Yom ha-Shoah was established to acknowledge the uniqueness of the tragedy of the Holocaust in the modern life of the Jewish people. Commemorating the destruction of a huge proportion of the world’s Jews reminds us of the sacredness of the lives lost and also of our obligation to work to prevent such horrible things from occurring again to the Jewish people or any people. This year, we will gather in the Magil Chapel on Yom ha-Shoah eve and read (in English) a scroll created in 2003 that takes us inside the experiences of people in the Holocaust in a way that parallels the scroll of Eicha (Lamentations) that we read on Tisha b’Av. In between the chapters of the scroll, we will offer songs and poetry to help move our hearts on this very solemn day. Everyone is invited to come and participate, whether in person or on Zoom.
