Please join the Laigaie family to honor the memory of Brenda Laigaie z”l, member of Germantown Jewish Centre. David Laigaie and Brenda’s brother, Bob Numerof, have donated a gift to install 13 solar panels on the roof of our school building, honoring Brenda with a gift to help create a healthier future for all of us. GJC will celebrate Brenda’s life with a ceremony to install a plaque honoring her on October 22nd at 12:30. You are also cordially invited to join the Laigaie family for lunch at David’s home in Chestnut Hill following the ceremony. The RSVP form for the luncheon is below.
Women of GJC, in coordination with the Laigaie family, present a program at 11:00 AM in the Charry Sanctuary in memory of Brenda Laigaie z”l, before the dedication at 12:30 PM:
In the United States of America, in the 21st century, before, during, and after childbirth, women, especially those from disadvantaged, minority populations are experiencing dire complications at a higher rate from pregnancy-related causes than in any other developed nation. This means that far too many women experience pain, neglect, and loss during what should be one of the most joyous times of their lives.
Please join the WGJC in the Charry Sanctuary as they honor the memory of Brenda Laigaie z”l, former Board member of the Maternity Care Coalition for an examination of the crisis in maternal child health faced by minority communities and the measures being taken by the public health world to address those disturbing statistics. Our speakers will be Karen Pollack, Executive Vice President of Programs & Operations for the Maternity Care Coalition and Olivia Nowinski, Nurse Supervisor at the Philadelphia Nurse-Family Partnership. Both speakers are committed to addressing health disparities that lead to adverse pregnancy outcomes and to improving the quality of life for pregnant women and families with young children.
At GJC we strive to build a community that is inviting and welcoming to all who come through our doors and that continually expands our capacity to learn together about the vast world of Jewish life and thought. In her years of dedication to our congregation, both in her capacity as a chair of the membership committee as well as through her presence, Brenda embodied these values in her warm engagement with everyone she met and in her continued interest in learning herself and in facilitating the learning of others. Brenda cared deeply about quality health care for mothers and babies and served on the Board of Maternity Care Coalition.
