Appreciating the Art and Genius of Leonard Cohen Z”L through a Jewish Lens

7:00 – 8:30 PM on Tuesdays, November 30, December 7, and December 14 (Zoom)

In this 3-session course, we will look at selected writing and song lyrics of Leonard Cohen Z”L from a Jewish perspective asking the question: “How are we to conceive of the impact and legacy of this unique poet, novelist and songwriter in a Jewish context? Does his reach extend beyond that of a pop music writer and performer? Might he be better understood as the originator of a modern book of Psalms or as a contemporary Hebrew prophet?” This class is part of the Open Beit Midrash series and meets on Zoom from 7:00-8:30PM on three consecutive Tuesdays, November 30, December 7, and December 14.

Lecture 1: The Prose and Poetry of Leonard Cohen
Lecture 2: The Songs of Leonard Cohen
