FILM & DISCUSSION (THE BAND’S VISIT):  6:45 PM

A brass band comprised of members of the Egyptian police force head to Israel to play at the inaugural ceremony of an Arab arts center. But due to bureaucracy, bad luck, or for whatever reason, find themselves stranded in a desolate, almost forgotten, small Israeli town, somewhere in the heart of the desert. Their booking set for a different city, and with no transportation out of the town or any hotels to stay at, the band settles at a restaurant owned by Dina (Ronit Elkabetz), who offers them lodging. Overcoming ethnic barriers, the Egyptians find diversion and companionship with the Israelis through a pervading undercurrent of shared melancholy. The Band’s Visit is both a clever, subtle, slice-of-life comedy, and poignant cross-cultural exploration.

Registrations for the dinner portion of this program are now closed. There may be a limited number of dinners still available; please call Kate Lawn at 215-844-1507 x19 to check availability. Regardless, please come and enjoy the film!
