Inclusivity and Exclusivity in Judaism: Who was at Sinai?
10:00 AM on Sunday, November 6 in the Silver Kiddush Lounge (in-person only)
$20, scholarships available
Torah speaks of Israel as a Chosen People, but also holds out the image of God as the God of all. Where does Judaism fall on issues of inclusivity and exclusivity? Might we need to balance both approaches? How would this be manifest in our work as a synagogue community?
Rabbi Emeritus Leonard Gordon
Rabbi Leonard Gordon is rabbi emeritus of Germantown Jewish Centre, where he served as senior rabbi from 1994-2010. During those years, he worked closely with Adam Zeff, who began as a lay leader and went from being the student rabbi while he attended the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College to becoming Associate Rabbi. Lenny now serves as rabbi at B’nai Tikvah in Canton, MA. Since leaving GJC, Lenny earned a doctor of ministry degree in interfaith studies from the Andover Newton Theological School. As a board member of the National Council of Synagogues, he is currently engaged in planning a joint Jewish-Muslim leadership trip to the Andalusia region of Spain. Returning to celebrate Rabbi Zeff’s 20 years of service at GJC, Rabbi Gordon will teach about “Our Sephardic Heritage in Poetry and Song” with his wife, Dr. Lori Lefkovitz.
