- Who are those working for a just peace and promoting non-violence in Israel and Palestine?
- What actions are they taking to achieve those goals?
- What are their lives like in places like Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Sderot, and the West Bank?
These are the questions for which a group – including two GJC congregants, Maynard Seider and Rabbi Sheila Weinberg – sought answers on a recent American Friends of Combatant for Peace-sponsored trip to Israel and Palestine.
They met with a father whose son was kidnapped at Kibbutz Re’im; toured the Nova Music Festival site; visited the area of Masafer Yatta, where the Oscar-winning documentary “No Other Land” was filmed; went to Hebron; and, in the embattled Bedouin village of Auja, spoke with a group of Jewish Israeli youth whose commitment to social justice flows from the Torah.
At this program, Maynard and Sheila will narrate a slide presentation about the trip to help us understand the peace initiatives taking place, and the challenge faced by those promoting non-violence and peace.
