Reproductive Justice Shabbat: God Bless the Pill

--

Dr. Samira K. Mehta is an Associate Professor of Women and Gender Studies and the Director of Jewish Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder. Her research and teaching focus on the intersections of religion, culture, and gender, including the politics of family life and reproduction in the United States.

Dr. Mehta’s talk will be based on her forthcoming book, God Bless the Pill: Contraception and Sexuality in American Religion.” She will focus on the role of the Jews in the expansion of access to birth control (and some of the ways that Jews are implicated in its contradictions). Dr. Mehta sees the expansion of contraception and the abortion rights movement as being in relationship to each other and will fit it into the larger context of reproductive rights.
