PRIDE Storytime in GJC’s Early Childhood Program with Radiance Angelina Petro
Thursday, June 8
Thursday, June 8 is Pride Storytime in GJC’s Early Childhood Program! Send your little one to ECP with clothing inspired by the rainbow. Each class will visit Radiance Angelina Petro, proud transwoman, and mother of three grown sons. She is an activist, poet, musician, artist, storyteller, speaker, twenty-year elementary school teacher, and workshop leader. She has been featured on an episode of Liz Plank’s Vox, as well as in several newspaper articles including the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Montgomery News, and the Bucks County Currier Times. She has published articles for GLSEN and the Montgomery County Women’s Center, as well as two books of trans-related poetry. Germantown Jewish Centre was lucky to have Radiance as part of our very first Friday Night PRIDE celebration and is thrilled to have her return to tell stories and sing songs with our ECP children.
Friday Night PRIDE! under the Maple Tent
Friday, June 9
- 5:30-7:30 PM: Booths
- Trans Information & Inspiration with Radiance Angelina Petro
- Consent with Sadie Wade
- LGBTQ Banned Books with HAZAK
- Pride swag, Photo Booth, Temporary Tattoos, J.KidPride craft, and teen-led crafts
- 6:00-6:45 PM: Family & Kids’ JAM for ALL and Pride March!
- “Through the Rainbow” Music & Drag Show featuring Chana Rothman, Mikael Elsila, Eren Slifker, Eric Jaffe, and a host of Jewish Drag Queens & King! Join Chana Rothman, Eric Jaffe, and friends in a rainbow-filled tent to celebrate who we are, who we love, and who loves us. The story of who we are as a community and world is filled with beautiful diversity, and Shabbat is a taste of the world to come, a model for openness, outness, and acceptance. Through music, songs, and prayers, we come together to share in this feeling. GJC is pleased to present extraordinary Jewish Philly-based drag queens and kings who envision a world where kids (and adults!) can learn from LGBTQ+ herstories and experiences to love themselves, celebrate the fabulous diversity in their communities, and stand up for what they believe in and each other. Let’s imagine a world where we can all present as we wish, expressing our authentic selves and becoming bright lights of change in our communities. We’ll end the JAM with a Pride march around the tent! Many thanks to the Women of GJC for sponsoring our beloved rainbow balloon arch!
- 6:45 PM: Sh’BBQ Potluck & Picnic (sponsored by the GJC Men’s Club and Grow & Behold)
- PLACE YOUR ORDER HERE FOR GRILL ITEMS! Hamburgers & hot dogs & vegetarian options oh my! | Grills under TKS | selection of sides by Centre Catering (TKS) | Please bring a pareve-only dish to share! Many thanks to Grow & Behold for donating burgers and hotdogs, to the Men’s Club for their master grillwork and sponsorship, and to both of these organizations for showing their support of the LGBTQ community.
- 7:15-8:00 PM: Teen Music Jam with songs & skits
- GJC teens are leading a musical, interactive, and educational song and skit jam, so grab your food and stay for more entertainment! Stay after to usher in Shabbat as we come together in harmony, peace, and love.
