Event Navigation

The Women of GJC, Men’s Club, and HAZAK invite you to our welcome back event via Zoom on Sunday, September 13, at 10:00 AM when Sam Katz, Philadelphia historian, Emmy Award-winning filmmaker, and longtime GJC member, will present a compelling program on the history of disempowerment of Philadelphia’s African American community and other communities of color. Sam will provide anecdotes and excerpts from his Emmy Award-winning 14-part documentary series: Philadelphia: The Great Experiment, to tell this story. He will introduce us to the transitional moments the Philadelphia power structure, when faced with choices, chose the course of sustaining its privilege and how these actions fostered a racially-polarized community and a legacy of institutional racism that thrives today. This will be an incredibly powerful and enlightening presentation. Contact Marilyn Kraut at mkkraut1@gmail.com with any questions or for the Zoom link.

PLEASE NOTE: Links to services and events are not posted on the GJC website. Rather, daily and weekly schedules with links are emailed to our member listserv. If you are not a GJC member but would like to receive these emails, please contact Program & Membership Director Kate Lawn at program@germantownjewishcentre.org to be added to our list.
