Tikkun Olam Workshop: Reexamining Racism & Anti-Semitism (Session 1)
Event Navigation
Many of you told us how valuable you found last spring’s Granger Shabbat program on this topic and we are pleased to welcome back our speakers, Dr. Howard Stevenson and Rabbi Mordechai Leibling for a two-part workshop which will examine the issues in greater depth. Through historical exploration, personal storytelling and experiential exercises, we will learn about the effects of racism and anti-Semitism on individuals and our society. Participants will be exposed to concepts of racial literacy and racial stress and how to reduce it. The intent is to work at the levels of heart, mind and spirit. Some of the issues we will examine include:
- The depth of racism in American culture
- Internalized oppression and intergenerational trauma
- How anti-Semitism works
- The meaning of white privilege and Jews’ complicated relationship to it
- The history of Black-Jewish relations in the US
Interested?
Participants are asked to commit to both sessions. Space is limited so please sign up as soon as possible. Price: $40 for two sessions, including light refreshments.
