“They Ain’t Ready for Me” Film Discussion

11/19/2020 @ 11/19/2020 - 11/19/2020 EST

Event Navigation

HAZAK and TOCT (Tikkun Olam Coordinating Team) invite you to join in a film discussion of They Ain’t Ready for Me, a documentary film being shown virtually this year as part of the Gershman Philadelphia Jewish Film Festival. THEY AIN’T READY FOR ME is about Tamar Manasseh, founder of MASK (Mothers Against Senseless Killings). She is a mother, Black Chicago activist, and rabbinical student who dreams of becoming a rabbi someday. The film shows how Tamar addresses the challenges facing both the black and Jewish worlds. Within the Jewish world, Tamar is looked at as an outsider, someone whose identity is constantly questioned even as her approach to fighting gun violence is lauded. The paradox is that while she credits her Judaism as the source of her activism and she claims many Jews as supporters, she is kept at arm’s length by the mainstream (white) Jewish community.

They Ain’t Ready for Me can be streamed any time over a 48 hour period beginning on November 8 at 10 am.  Tickets are $15 for each household, and can be purchased in advance. The link to purchase a ticket and watch the movie is:  https://pjff.org/event/they-aint-ready-for-me/ .

The virtual discussion will take place on Thursday, November 19, at 2:30 PM. More information about how to attend this discussion will be sent out at a later date.

We hope you will watch the movie and join us for a lively discussion of the issues raised by this film.
