Event Navigation

Join the GJC Men’s Club on Zoom for Louis Schmidt’s moving talk about his experiences interviewing and recording testimonies of Holocaust survivors. These interviews are now part of the USC Shoah Foundation’s archive to bear witness to the Holocaust. Mr. Schmidt’s presentation is entitled: “The Untold Story of How the Stories Were Told”. Mr. Schmidt, a former Senior NFL film producer, and three-time Emmy award winner, conducted almost two dozen interviews of survivors on behalf of what was originally the Shoah Foundation. The Foundation is a project originally undertaken by Steven Spielberg and announced at the 1994 Academy Award ceremony at which “Schindler’s List” won the Oscar for best picture. The Foundation is now housed under the auspices of the University of Southern California. Based on his publishing and film expertise, Mr. Schmidt was uniquely qualified to volunteer for this important project. He conducted these interviews in the mid-1990s and has only in recent years began speaking about his experiences. Despite the horrors of the survivors’ experiences, Mr. Schmidt was instructed to remain as professionally detached as possible. In this way, the testimonies he recorded would be as objective as possible and preserved for later generations. For more information, please contact Jim Meyer at jrm@meyeroneagle.com.
