POWER Education Justice Rally

GJC Members are invited to join members of POWER Interfaith from congregations from Philadelphia and Montgomery County for a rally and march for Fair Funding for public schools on Monday, June 21. STILL SEPARATE AND UNEQUAL: 100% FAIR FUNDING NOW! events will be happening simultaneously at multiple locations across the state.

The Philadelphia event will be a  march from Samuel Gompers school, a Philadelphia public school in Wynnefield to a Merion Elementary School, less than 2 miles away in Lower Merion. The purpose is to draw attention to how the huge disparities in resources at these 2 schools exemplify the impact of unfair and racially biased school funding all over PA. We will be calling on the PA legislature to enact Governor Wolf’s proposal for a huge step toward fair and adequate funding for all schools. For background information about the school funding situation and why this action is important, click here.

The event will start at noon with a rally at  Samuel Gompers School (5701 Wynnefield Ave), followed by a 1.7 mile walk (with van support) to Merion Elementary School (549 S Bowman Ave, Merion Station), where there will be another rally.  For continuing updates about the day’s agenda and speakers, visit POWER’s Facebook page or tinyurl.com/FairFunding/Now.
