Appreciating the Art and Genius of Leonard Cohen Z”L through a Jewish Lens
In this 3-session course, we will look at selected writing and song lyrics of Leonard Cohen Z”L from a Jewish perspective asking the question: “How are we to conceive of the impact and legacy of this unique poet, novelist and songwriter in a Jewish context? Does his reach extend beyond that of a pop music writer and performer? Might he be better understood as the originator of a modern book of Psalms or as a contemporary Hebrew prophet?” The class meets on three consecutive Tuesdays on Zoom, from 7-8:30 PM on November 30, December 7, and December 14.
Lecture 1: The Prose and Poetry of Leonard Cohen
Lecture 2: The Songs of Leonard Cohen
Lecture 3: The Death Awareness Practice of Leonard Cohen
