Center City Lunch and Learn: Jewish Ethics and Foreign Policy
Event Navigation
In absorbing and understanding the flood of world events, one of the most vexing and hotly-debated topics is what our role should be. How much of a moral stake do we have in what happens far from us, events that do not affect us directly? To what extent should we or our government be intervening in the affairs of foreign state and governments from a moral point of view? How do we understand the imperatives for and limits on our involvement, and what are the criteria we should use to decide? In this six-session course, we will examine what Jewish law has to teach us about our ethical responsibility to intervene in the affairs of others, using texts from the Bible, the Talmud, and later Jewish tradition, and we will seek to apply that knowledge to current debates and decisions about foreign policy. No previous experience is necessary or assumed; all are welcome. For more information, click here.
