Sofrut: Exploring the Sacred Art of Torah
with Rabbi Steph Breitsman

This 3-session series will explore the art of sofrut, the practice of writing and caring for our sacred Jewish texts. This series intends to bring participants closer to Torah and expand our understanding of who Torah belongs to. The sessions include an introduction to Sofrut and a tour of the Torah scroll; egalitarian approaches to sofrut; and a hands-on introduction to the spiritual practice of writing sacred texts.
Tuition: $30 for GJC members, $45 for non-members

Rabbi Steph Breitsman is a congregational rabbi, soferet, printmaker, and Creative Facilitator of the Jewish Studio Process living in Philadelphia. She received ordination from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in May 2024, and she studied sofrut with Jen Taylor Friedman and Izzy Pludwinski during her rabbinic training. Rabbi Steph is currently the part-time rabbi for Temple Beth Shalom in Brigantine, NJ, and she spends the rest of her time as a working soferet.
