Jewish Disability, Awareness, Acceptance, and Inclusion: FUNDAMENTAL MENTAL HEALTH with Sam Langstein
Event Navigation

It may seem like a basic question, but fundamentally: What is Mental Health? In this workshop, we’ll talk about what mental health is and explore some of the surprising philosophical and practical questions that come up when we ask a seemingly simple question. Using a variety of lenses and perspectives will help us develop a clearer sense about our own mental health and the mental health of those around us.
Sam Langstein is the Helpline Manager at the National Alliance on Mental Illness in New York City, where he oversees a team of responders and manages their peer-led call line from head to tail. In 2020, Sam graduated from the University of Michigan’s Jewish Communal Leadership Program through the School of Social Work. Sam has also counseled people who misuse substances at Beit T’Shuvah, consulted on a multi-million dollar teen mental health initiative in Detroit, and worked at Footsteps- an organization that supports people transitioning out of the ultra-Orthodox world. He’s also been a freelance graphic designer, assisted in psycholinguistic research at Yale University, and has been fired from a job at a falafel shop.
Jewish Disability Awareness, Acceptance & Inclusion Month (JDAIM) is a unified national initiative during the month of February to raise disability awareness and support efforts to foster inclusion in Jewish communities worldwide.
