04/08/2021 @ 04/08/2021 UTC-4

Event Navigation

As America is in the throes of a historical reckoning over its monuments, Dr. Paul Farber, Director of Monument Lab, a Philadelphia-based public art and history studio, will share insights into how democracy lives and languishes through its sites of memory. Through this talk, Dr. Farber addresses local and national stories, including the work of Monument Lab’s National Monument Audit with the Mellon Foundation. In his talk, he also will reflect on the emergence of a next generation of monuments through the lenses of art, activism, and historical struggle today. This is the sixth event in the Tikkun Olam@GJC series, Facing Systemic Racism.

Paul Farber is Director of Monument Lab. He is the author of A Wall of Our Own: An American History of the Berlin Wall and co-editor of Monument Lab: Creative Speculations for Philadelphia. He also serves as Senior Research Scholar at the Center for Public Art & Space at the University of Pennsylvania’s Weitzman School of Design. He grew up and currently resides in Mt. Airy, and began his lifelong learning journey in GJC’s Early Childhood Program.
