HAZAK & Women of GJC present
Sex & Consent: Ethical Issues with Intimacy in Aging
with Dr. Kenneth Weiss & Rabbi Dayle Friedman
Sunday, June 2 at 10 AM

Is it ethical and legal for persons with declining mental capacity to engage in intimate relations? Can residents of long-term-care facilities choose to have intimate visits from a spouse or to accept invitations from new relationships? Psychiatrist Ken Weiss and Rabbi Dayle Friedman will look at the question of intimacy from two points of view. Ken will look at it from a medico-legal model of capacity, consent, and advance directives. Dayle will provide a real-world commentary on the role and importance of intimacy in late life.

Dr. Weiss is the Robert L. Sadoff Clinical Professor of Forensic Psychiatry at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. He has been practicing psychiatry at the interface with the legal system for about 40 years. A recent article, co-authored with Dr. Michelle Joy, on the subject of consent, can be downloaded here.

Rabbi Dayle Friedman is a spiritual guide, social innovator, chaplain, and scholar. Her most recent book is Jewish Wisdom for Growing Older: Finding Your Grit and Grace Beyond Midlife. Through Growing Older, her Philadelphia-based, national practice, Dayle offers spiritual direction for people beyond midlife, spiritual care for people facing dementia and frailty, and consulting on medical decisions and end-of-life care.

RSVP to Coleman Poses or Helen Feinberg.
