Ancient Prayers – New Songs

Ancient Jewish prayer-songs and poetry – such as the Psalms – are often rollercoaster-like expressions of the human soul that vary as widely in their thematic consistency as they do in their musical meters. This class will explore how we can draw out coherent ideas from the Psalms and other ancient texts, and fit them into contemporary musical expressions and song structures. This class will take place in the choir loft at Germantown Jewish Centre, which is located up a set of spiral stairs. This class is part of the Open Beit Midrash series and meets in-person at GJC from 7:00-8:30 PM on Tuesdays, January 4, 11, and 18. You must be fully vaccinated and wear a mask at all times to attend this class.
