Education - Early Childhood Program
ECP Teachers

  Rachel Hollander
Rachel is our Gan Katan teacher (4 years +). In May 2009, Rachel completed her Master's in Jewish Education from the University of Pennsylvania, where she had the opportunity to be a student teacher at Saligman Middle School. Rachel did her undergraduate studies at The George Washington University, double majoring in Judaic Studies and Religion. She has also studied at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Tel Aviv University, and The Conservative Yeshiva in Jerusalem. Rachel has spent nine summers at Camp Ramah in the Poconos. Rachel joined the ECP staff in September 2009. She loves working with children of all ages and is excited about a fulfilling year at ECP.

Shellie Holl
Shellie is our Bonim teacher (3 years +). She has taught art to children from Pre-K through grade 8 in a variety of school and camp settings. Shellie originally began working at ECP in 1995 as the Late Care activities coordinator, and later became a Lead Teacher in Gan Katan and Gesher. Shellie left ECP and spent several years Homeschooling her younger son, but kept her foot in the Jewish Education door, so to speak, by teaching the youngest Religious School students here at GJC. She returned to ECP in 2008 to work with her old Gesher partner, Tina Easley, in Bonim. Shellie has been an active member of GJC since 1994. She’s on the Board of the Women’s Club and serves as Keeper of Sacred objects. When she’s not teaching, she enjoys walking in Carpenter’s Woods with her wonderful husband, two energetic boys and awesome dog.

Rebecca (Becca) Flynn-Meketon
Becca is our Dubonim teacher (older toddlers). She graduated from Earlham College in May 2003 with a liberal arts degree in Fine Art and Psychology and is currently working toward a Masters of Education from Cabrini College. After two years as an assistant teacher in an Ardmore preschool and then for Germantown Academy’s preschool, Becca was hired as Dubonim’s lead teacher here at GJC in 2005. She has enjoyed her time here immensely. She grew up in Mt. Airy and now lives here with her cat Charlie.

Shira Kamm
Shira is our Kochavim teacher (one of two infant and toddler classes). She always wanted to live in Mt. Airy when she grew up. And while there is some debate about whether she actually grew up, there is no doubt that Shira is here in Mt. Airy. She first moved to the Great Northwest (of Philadelphia) in 2002, after spending 2.5 years in Israel raising funds for a civil rights organization. She continued to raise funds for the Mural Arts Program and Temple University Press before leaving the city and apprenticing as a biodynamic farmer at the Kimberton CSA. But the pull of the 'hood (Mt. Airy) is strong, and after three years of farming, Shira is glad to be back and working with our community's children and families. She started as an assistant teacher in January 2009 and as a lead teacher in September 2009.

Elyse Miller
Elyse is our Chaverim teacher (one of two infant and toddler classes). She moved to the Philadelphia area in May 2009. She is originally from Atlanta where she was very active in the Jewish community. Elyse got her undergraduate degree at University of Hartford in psychology and special education. She was extremely active at Hillel, both in a student leadership role and in a staff role. Currently she is working toward her Masters in School Psychology at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Elyse teaches confirmation classes and is the junior youth group advisor at KI in Elkins Park. Elyse started at ECP in September 2009 and is very excited to be part of the Germantown Jewish Centre community and Early Childhood Program.
